María de Lourdes Santiago, Vice-President of the Puerto Rican Independence Party, visits the Civic Media Center on February 27th at 7pm to speak on American Colonialism and its detrimental socio-politico-economic effects upon the U.S territory of Puerto Rico and its inhabitants from its conquest in 1898 to the present day.

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, and has been since the Treaty of Paris surrendered Spanish control of the island. The independence movement in Puerto Rico has been repressed by the United States, paving the way for the effects of the colonial status felt by all Puerto Ricans. The conference will explain the failures of the American colonial experiment on the island.
