Gainesville Peer Respite presents...

Open Dialogue: An Alternative, Finnish Approach to Healing Psychosis

In the far north of Finland, a group of family therapists have nearly eradicated schizophrenia from the entire region through a simple yet innovative program of support. Their approach takes into account the social dynamics at play, giving voice to the effected community, family members, friends, and most importantly, the person directly in crisis. And as a result, they have achieved the best results in the western world, an 85% recovery rate of a condition that traditional psychiatry deems untreatable. This film and discussion is open to everyone.

This will be the first in a monthly movie series about alternative, community-based approaches to mental health and wellness!

The Gainesvile Peer Respite is a newly-forming, peer-based alternative to the current mental health system. We value self-determination, mutual aid, and non-coersive approaches to wellness and recovery.
