Curating Autonomy - Experiences from Europe

Published Kayla Coleman - Sat, 03/12/2016 - 8:56pm

The talk will be given by activist-scholar Tina Steiger, who will explore the potentials of creating autonomous spaces by curatorial practices. Taking examples from self-managed spaces, such as squats and social centers mostly in Spain, Denmark and Germany the concept of autonomy is depicted. This will be coupled with a theoretical understanding of autonomy and it’s manifestation in space - drawing from the disciplines of philosophy, sociology, politics, cultural and urban studies.

Tina has a degree in political science, and a masters degree in Urban Studies from the European 4Cities Program. Currently based on Copenhagen, she has written and lectured about squatter movements, self-management and recently the refugee crisis. Also, she is involved in a number of autonomous projects in the realm of politics and music in Copenhagen, Hamburg and Berlin.
