Refugee Crisis in Europe: What Is Happening?

A Syposium led by activist scholar, Tina Steiger and an activist who has been squatting with and for the rights of migrants in Calais, France. discussing the events surrounding the refugee crisis and how it has developed in Europe in the past 6 months. Taking a chronological approach, the situation of millions of people seeking asylum in Europe is depicted. As several nations within fortress Europe begin closing their boarders, right wing governments are elected and xenophobic citizen movements emerge, Europe finds itself in a state of crisis. These questions and more will be discussed and portrayed from the viewpoint of an activist scholar based in Copenhagen.

 

Tina Steiger has a degree in politcal science and Urban Studies and writes about squatter movements and autonomous social centers in Germany and Denmark. Based in Copenhagen, she is part of the Squatting in Europe Kollektiv and occasionally lectures within the field of urban studies.
