Intervention Skills Workshop/Discussion

Published mpadron87 - Fri, 01/25/2013 - 4:45pm

How do we encourage a (local) culture of responsiveness to hate/privilege/prejudice? How do we encourage folks (and ourselves!) who come to events to feel empowered to intervene/participate/speak out? How can we practice these skills?
How do we raise consciousness about prejudice?

How to talk to friends about racist/sexist/homophobic/etc behavior and talk? How to organize in/during spectator-type events where hate is thought to be funny or otherwise entertaining? Can we be funny/awesome and stop hate?

Does art/music/comedy have a responsibility to raise consciousness? Can it do this and not suck?

While we're at it, why DO we want to address hate? Are we just uptight and easily-offended? What does it all have to do with so-called triggers?
