Ever participated in street theater?  Ever wanted to use theater as a tool for social change?  Join us on Sunday, February 19th from 1 to 4pm for this workshop with a touring troupe of troubadours.  The EGGPLANT Players will be in town for a performance at Spin Cycle on the evening of Saturday, February 18th, and have graciously agreed to come in the next day to facilitate this workshop at the CMC for anyone in the Gainesville community who is interested.  Here is a statement from the Players:

Street theater is a powerful form of creative expression when used to further activism. Join The EGGPLANT Faerie Players for an afternoon of Street theater.

In a hands on workshop we will look at the elements of creating and producing a street theater action, we will use theater game techniques, props, costuming, brainstorming, and improvisation to conceive of a short piece.

The workshop will aim to create a sense of group cohesion and foster the chance to collaborate to access our innate creativity. We will identify the overlap between seemingly disparate issues and find ways to access and express them.

The EGGPLANT Faerie Players have been performing and teaching street theater, educational theater and guerrilla theater for many years.

From performing with Pinkerton Street Theater Group and Drag Queens Storm School of Americas (exploring numerous issues, relating queer issues with anti-militarism), and Earthcapades Environmental Vaudeville, to teaching workshops to students in SEAC (Student Environmental Action Committee) and NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation), we’ve been uniting theater with political and social activism.
