Gainesville Women's Liberation Speakout for Abortion Rights

Join Gainesville Women’s Liberation (GWL), a chapter of National Women’s Liberation, for a Speak Out on Abortion, on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 3 p.m. at the Civic Media Center, 433 S. Main Street.    At this event, women will Speak Out by publicly testifying about their experiences with abortion and why the ability to decide if and when we bear children is critical to women controlling the direction of our lives.

Women’s rights are under attack again in Florida.  State lawmakers have filed a bill that would make it a felony for doctors to perform abortions after 20 weeks—a blatant violation of women’s rights under Roe v. Wade.  Other bills include: forcing women to view an ultrasound of the fetus before having an abortion, barring private insurance companies from covering abortion, and adding more restrictions to the already burdensome parental notice requirements for young women.  These bills are part of continuing attempts to restrict abortion rights until abortions become completely inaccessible to most women.  Women have been fighting for decades to defend our right to control our lives. We demand that our state lawmakers stand up for women’s rights and defeat these newest threats.

Following the Speak Out, GWL will be providing information on pending state legislation which violates women’s rights, including: House Bills 97, 321, 415, 501, 747, 1127, 1179, and 1247 and on Senate Bills 196, 1414, 1538, 1744, 1748, 1760, 1770, 1858, 1948 and how to get involved in fighting against restrictions on abortions rights and for women’s freedom.
