Florida-born writer and "This American Life" commentator Erick Lyle will be in Gainesville for a one-night-only reading at the Civic Media Center on Feb. 18 at 7pm. Lyle is the author of On the Lower Frequencies: A Secret History of the City, “a memoir and a history of creative resistance and fun in a world run rotten with poverty and war.”

A musician and activist as well as a writer, Lyle is equally well-known for his SCAM zine, which he’s published under the pseudonym "Iggy Scam" since the early 90s, and which was recently compiled into book form by Microcosm Press. SCAM zine is one of the most famous of Florida underground publications, helping put Miami and South Florida in general on the map for the punk rock and radical activist scenes. Lyle has played in over a dozen bands, including Onion-Flavored Rings and Black Rainbow, and toured and traveled all over the U.S., often riding the rails via freight train, and squatting in abandoned buildings with friends.

Lyle will be reading from his work and engaging with the audience for question-and-answer and discussion of his funny, provocative and thought-provoking work.

Copies of Lyle's book and his zine will be available for sale to the public at the event.
