The Civic Media Center and Anarchademics will screen the film, "ZIZEK!" on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:00pm at the Civic Media Center.

"ZIZEK!" (2005), directed by Astra Taylor, explores the Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Zizek and his philosophy. The film traces him as he travels from lecture halls in New York City, to the streets of Buenos Aries and to his home in Slovenia. Along the way, he elucidates his unique blend of Marxism, Lacanian psychoanalysis and pop culture critique. He is also not afraid to explore and criticize his own life and personality in the process. Slavoj Zizek has written on such diverse subjects as Lenin and David Lynch, 9/11, opera, Alfred Hitchcock and Christianity. His eccentric personality and esoteric subjects have led to him be dubbed “The Elvis of cultural theory.”

Anarchademics is a monthly reading group that aims to explore and analyze contemporary and historical writings that have stimulated revolution, promoted critical thinking, and supported social justice. Participation is free and open to all political perspectives. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Civic Media Center. (www.anarchademics.com)
