Live Folk, Country and Blues with Cracker the Box and Faith Willin'

Published Jimmy - Fri, 09/10/2010 - 6:18pm

Please join us for a very special night of local talent as we present an evening of folk, country and blues with local musical acts Cracker the Box and Faith Willin'.

Cracker the Box is an extremely accomplished North Florida blues/folk singing/songwriting duo that plays original tunes with a variety of instruments, including homemade cigar box guitars. The duo consists of Glenn "Hamhock" Moody and Don Blitch.

North Central Florida music fans may know Glenn from his days as one half of the blues duo Hamhock and Slide, and Don is well known in folk music world for his longtime collaboration with Jim Garrick, including playing with beloved Florida folk musician Gamble Rogers "back in the day," and at the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival.

Don and Glenn have known each other and have been pickin' together for more than 20 years. Always sharing a love for traditional music, they have both been influenced by the blues, folk, bluegrass and many other styles of music.

Fascinated with the Cigarbox Guitar and the late 19th and early 20th century culture it came from, the guys have joined the ranks of a burgeoning revival of this endearing instrument.

Faith Willin' is a North Florida incarnation of that classic country/folk music phenomenon, the family band. Mom Diana, dad Perry, and daughter Jeri play a variety of instruments--including guitar, mandolin, bass and dulcimer--and sing sweet harmonies together.

For this gig, FW will play as a 4-piece band, including guitar, upright acoustic bass, hand percussion and harmonica. They draw from a huge repertoire of traditional Americana music of all types--folk, country, blues and more--including old-timey standards and songs by contemporary singer/songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, Gillian Welch, John Prine, and Steve Earle, among many others.
