The UF chapter of the nationally active “Students for Free Culture” organization. The name Free Culture is derived from the book with the same title by scholar Lawrence Lessig who went on to create the Creative Commons licenses.

The organization intents to promote cultural participation, and public discourse of intellectual property policy such as copyright and patent reform, open access journals as well as open source software and participatory culture.

A common event is the“Free Your PC” campaign on campus where volunteers and partners from UF's Infosec team will clean up students' machines and additionally offer to install a selection of free software, such as Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.
