Students for a Democratic Society is a student activist organization. It proved essential in demonstrating against the Vietnam war and is back up and running, after a decade hiatus, in response to the war in Iraq. “One Bright Shining Moment” retraces George McGovern’s bold presidential campaign of 1972 - a grassroots campaign that fought for peace and justice, and positioned ideas and people first. But what is remembered today as being the ultimate political defeat of the American Century may also have been its high watermark. The film poses this central question: what does the crushing electoral defeat of a man so well respected for his decency and intellect say about the electoral process, the American government, and more importantly, what does it say about the forces at work on the American people- then and now? Featuring interviews with the candidate himself, supporters and activists like Gore Vidal, Gloria Steinem, Warren Beatty, Howard Zinn, and music from Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Donovan, and Elvis Costello

“Uncounted” is an explosive new documentary that shows how the election fraud that changed  the outcome of the 2004 election led to even greater fraud in 2006 ­ and now looms as an unbridled  threat to the outcome of the 2008 election. This controversial feature length film by Emmy award­ winning director David Earnhardt examines in factual, logical, and yet startling terms how easy it is to  change   election   outcomes   and   undermine   election   integrity   across   the   U.S.   Noted   computer  programmers, statisticians, journalists, and experienced election officials provide the irrefutable proof.
“Uncounted” shares well documented stories about the spine­chilling disregard for the right to  vote   in   America.   In   Florida,   computer   programmer   Clint   Curtis   is   directed   by   his   boss   to   create software that will “flip” votes from one candidate to another. In Utah, County Clerk Bruce Funk is locked   out   of   his   office   for   raising   questions   about   security   flaws   in   electronic   voting   machines. Californian Steve Heller gets convicted of a felony after he leaks secret documents detailing illegal  activities committed by a major voting machine company. And Tennessee entrepreneur, Athan Gibbs, finds verifiable voting a hard sell in America and dies before his dream of honest elections can be realized.
“Uncounted”  is a wakeup call to all Americans. Beyond increasing the public’s awareness, the  film   inspires   greater   citizen   involvement   in   fixing   a   broken   electoral   system.   As   we   approach   the  decisive election of 2008, “Uncounted” will change how you feel about the way votes are counted in  America.

The CMC will now offer a class that promises computer questions answered. Christopher “palm weaver” Scalf, the IT Manager for Florida Organic Growers (FOG), will teach the class once a week during the summer at the CMC. The class will help folks become informed about what they can do on the computer without excessive computer knowledge. The class will take place for one hour, followed by a question and answer session with Chris Scalf.
A minimal donations will be required at the door to cover the cost of the space use.

“Rude Boy” is part drama, part documentary and part concert film. The camera focuses on Ray Gange, a punk music fan who leaves his dead-end job by landing work as a roadie for his favorite band, the Clash. Intertwined with numerous concert performances and backstage footage from the band’s 1978 tour, “Rude Boy” paints a telling portrait of Britain’s turbulent times with its youth of the day.
