ACTION RESEARCH 19:
Number 19 in a series events curated by Action Research, focusing on noise, electronic and experimental music from local, regional, national and international musicians, featuring:
Projexorcism
Currently Projexorcism is using a quad 16mm projector array suspended from a lighting pole - the projectors are synchronized with a 4- channel sound-actuated variable speed lighting controller. The projected images are split, inverted and bent using silver reflective CD-R’s and Fresnel lenses.
In May 2005 The Catawba Council for the Arts awarded Projexorcism an Innovative Project Grant to add a Film-to-Video Regurgitation Array to their quad 16mm setup. Unbound from the linearity of film, the 16mm setup is now augmented with real-time video capture, manipulation & projection devices.
Hydrogen Arm
Electroacoustic elements, field recordings, live processing and organic instruments (including cello) are combined in a unique manner for each performance.
Masik
Live beatmaking and real time situational sampling meets recontextualized media with live digitally manipulated projections. Features members of Sidecar Racer, cntrl space, Humans Need Lumens, Trismegestisus and DJ Adikt.
Ironing
Live manipulation of microcassettes, cassettes, records, reels and radio from various devices spread out across two ironing boards. Three years, one hundred shows around the state and the northeast & midwest. Runs the tiny bedroom label Hymns.
Xiphiidae
Field recordings, tapes & electronic devices make clear organic sounds rise from muck. Runs the Housecraft label, which features small run releases, handmade packaging and gorgeous sounds.
No Limit Cycle
Recent transplant from Ann Arbor, MI, bringing a different set up to each show so far, from noise to power electronics to ambient to conch shells and box fans.
