The Civic Media Center will host a documentary film fest on Saturday and Sunday noon to 4:30 PM during the Fest. The CMC (www.civicmediacenter.org) is a non-profit reading room and library of the non-corporate press, located at 1021W. University Ave. Donations are requested to support the CMC.
Here is the film line-up for both days:
12 Noon: “Manifestoon, ” a short piece of classic words and cartoon snippets.
12:15 PM : : Noam Chomsky, Rebel Without a Pause,” 2003 profile of noted political analyst and dissident.
1:45 PM: “Iraq For Sale, The War Profiteers,” (www.iraqforsale.org) profiles the corporations and companies making an economic killing in the war; KBR, Halliburton, Blackwater, etc.
3:00 PM: Peoples’ choice between 3 new films, we’ll let the folks there decide:
1. “King Corn” (www.kingcorn.com) A smart and revealing profile of the corn industry , from agricultural subsidies to the corn syrup sweeteners the are in almost everything.
2. “Sir, No Sir” (www.sirnosir.com) A Documentary that looks back on the Viet Nam soldiers’ active resistance to the war with newspapers, coffeehouses, teach-ins, protests and the like.
3. “When I Came Home” (www.whenicamehome.com) This film compiles issues of returning Iraq War veterans and homlessness in a profile of a largely ignored problem.
