May Day Celebration

May 1st, often called May Day, just might have more holidays than any other day of the year. It’s a celebration of Spring, a day of political protest, a neopagan festival, a saint’s feast day, and a day for organized labor. In many countries, it is a national holiday. (Though not this one, of course!)
The Civic Media Center, along with a variety of other groups in town, will take part in a May Day celebration downtown, complete with speakers, music, games, solidarity demonstrations, and a weekend of fun and action. The May Day planning committee is looking for speakers (from unions, local grassroots organizations, or reclaimers), musicians, poets, artists, and anyone looking to make this week of events great.
Contat the committee at (352) 219-5723 or email maydaygainesville@hotmail.com
The CMC will also host a labor film series on Sunday, April 29 from 7-10 PM. For more information, call (325) 373-0010.
Get involved and celebrate with us on May 1st, 2007 at downtown Gainesville!
