“Radio is technology wasted. When I think of turning on the radio I imagine emptying myself into a void, listening to bland censored and stale music. Radio should be a vein in a community, giving life to every citizen who chooses to contribute, since radio, like every media, should be a conversation between the audience and the personality at the radio, be it disk jockey, a political commentator, or a guest. A community needs to welcome the radio into the home and the radio must show its gratefulness by being as honest and good-hearted as it can, like a good friend. A disk jockey should play what he thinks is important for his fellow citizens to hear, be it music, poetry, speeches, comedy, or anything audible. A radio personality must be true to both him/herself and his/her listeners, teaching them and sharing thoughts with them.
A popular community radio strengthens a community, bounding its members tighter and tighter as neighbors, accepting of each otherâ??s different opinions and world-views. And, last, radio should be a creative source that ignites the communityâ??s imagination and motivates it to be a better unit, a better environment, a better neighborhood.”
